FAQ: FIREWALLS

Will people behind firewalls be able to see my streams?

Yes, if necessary we can stream your files over the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (http). We do this on port 80 which is the default port for transferring images and text for web browsers. As long as this port on the firewall is open (ie people behind the firewall can surf the web), then they will be able to view your streams.

By default we stream in either the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) format for RealPlayer, QuickTime and mp3 files on port 554 or the Microsoft Media Server (MMS) Protocol on port 1755. If systems administrators allow users behind their firewall to view streaming media content, these two ports will normally be open, or can be opened upon request to the administrator.
